VERONA, Miss. (AP) - The Verona Board of Aldermen has reinstated to duty two police officers who were suspended after a shooting in 2013.

Officers J.B. Long and Aaron Andrew had been on suspension since a Sept. 3 fatal shooting at City Park. A grand jury declined to indict the officers in January.

The shooting happened during an altercation between officers and two men they were trying to stop. One of the men, 31-year-old Henry Montgomery, was killed. The second, 33-year-old Christopher Montgomery was later charged with possession of 23 grams of crack cocaine during the traffic stop.

Aldermen have deliberated on the status of the two officers in previous closed sessions without making a decision. The 3-1 decision came Tuesday night after almost an hour in closed session.
