DENVER (AP) - Four Colorado prisons have canceled or restricted inmate visitation because of a virus that is causing flu-like symptoms.
Adrienne Jacobson, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Corrections, tells The Denver Post (https://bit.ly/1izG6Wy) that 244 inmates are sick at facilities in Denver, Canon City and Pueblo. None of the inmates has become sick enough to be hospitalized, and only one has tested positive for norovirus.
Territorial Correctional Facility in Canon City, where 75 inmates have been ill during the past week, will have restricted visitation hours through the Easter holiday weekend. Inmate visitations are canceled indefinitely at Denver Women’s Correctional Facility, La Vista Correctional Facility in Pueblo and Fremont Correctional Facility in Canon City.
The largest outbreak is at the Denver women’s prison, where 149 women, or 17 percent of the prison’s 900 inmates, are ill.
