Police in southwest Florida ordered organizers of a graphic crucifixion display to move an Easter presentation due to public safety hazards, on Friday.

The display, which featured an actor bearing the wounds suffered by Jesus, brought traffic to a crawl as drivers slowed down to take pictures. Some passers-by complained that the exhibition was inappropriate for public display, a local station reported.

Police arrived at the Lehigh Acres scene after receiving numerous complaints and told the organizers to move the crucifixion somewhere else.

Officers told the organizers that people were complaining about “near accidents” and were unhappy that the bloody Easter display was taking place on public property, The Blaze reported.

However, some were upset that the organizers were forced to take down the religious symbol.

“It’s ridiculous that they’re making you take him down,” one woman said, the local station reported.

Another woman echoed, “I really think we need to recognize and be reminded of what Jesus did for us.”

“Jesus is appropriate for everywhere,” she added.
