GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) - Gainesville police and state natural resources officers are investigating the drowning death of a Gainesville man in Lake Lanier.
Gainesville police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said emergency crews were called to the docks at the Chattahoochee Country Club shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday.
Gainesville police the first on the scene, and officers immediately began giving life-saving procedures to the man. Emergency medical personnel arrived shortly after that.
The man, 51-year-old William James Carswell of Gainesville, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead early Friday morning.
Holbrook said investigators are looking at all aspects of the case to determine the timeline, cause and manner of death. He said police are investigating it as a drowning.
