OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Survivors, rescue workers and the family members of victims of the Oklahoma City bombing have observed the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attack.
About 1,500 people gathered Saturday at the former site of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building to remember those lost in the April 19, 1995, bombing that killed 168 people and injured hundreds more.
Gov. Mary Fallin says the horror and brutality of the attack can never be forgotten. Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett says the Oklahoma City National Memorial, located on the site of the former federal building, serves as a lasting tribute to those who lost their lives.
Following the ceremony, families placed wreaths, flowers and children’s toys on 168 empty chairs on the grounds of the memorial that represent each of the bombing’s victims.
