FARGO, N.D. (AP) - A man who pleaded guilty three days into his trial on a drug charge has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

David Cerna Jr., of Moorhead, Minn., was charged in federal court for aiding and abetting a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana.

Authorities say the 37-year-old Cerna and his brother, 26-year-old Juan Cerna, helped move drugs from Texas to the Fargo-Moorhead area.

David Cerna backed out of his original plea deal during a hearing in October, telling a judge that “anything I do puts me in harm’s way.”

Juan Cerna was sentenced in February to 18½ years in prison.
