CLEVELAND (AP) - Residents and visitors to Cleveland are being offered an opportunity to view the lead ship on Ohio’s newest export route to Europe, the Cleveland-Europe Express.
The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reports (https://bit.ly/1hWQGXP ) the Fortunagracht was to sail into Cleveland on Saturday and be open for viewing until 5 p.m. through the port’s West Ninth Street gate. Visitors are being allowed to walk down the ramp for a better view of the ship as it unloads.
The 12,500-ton containerized Dutch freighter opened the export route through the Saint Lawrence Seaway beginning a little more than two weeks ago. Its arrival in Cleveland was delayed by ice.
Cleveland marks the end of a 4,000-mile sail from Antwerp, Belgium, passing through the Welland Canal from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie.
