RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County is offering free strobe alarms and vibrating alert smoke detectors for the deaf and hard of hearing.
The program is a cooperative effort between the Washoe County School District, the Office of Emergency Management and regional firefighting agencies.
Officials say the purpose is to promote general education and awareness for Washoe County’s special needs populations.
The devices will be available Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Regional Emergency Operations Center in Reno. Officials add that fire agencies will install the special alarms for free in their various districts.
