CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities say a Laramie County woman shot and wounded a pit bull that attacked her golden retriever as she was walking it.

The Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/1tiydcJ ) that Yvette Dalley was walking her dog near the intersection of Links Road and Jack Rabbit Road on Thursday when two pit bulls attacked it.

Laramie County Undersheriff Rich Hillegas says Dalley wounded one of the pit bulls with a handgun.

Kate Miller, operations manager at the Cheyenne Animal Shelter, says Dalley took her dog to a veterinary clinic for treatment. While she was there, another woman entered the clinic carrying the wounded pit bull, which later died of its injuries.

Miller says the owner of the pit bull gave up her second, uninjured pit bull to animal control officers who euthanized it.
