GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Investigators in Pitt County say a man was killed when his tractor jumped into gear and pinned him under a tire.
The sheriff’s office said 75-year-old Thomas Darden was moving a steel table with his tractor when he stepped off to adjust a cable. It’s believed the tractor jumped into gear and knocked him down. They say the rear tire came to rest on Darden’s back.
Firefighters and emergency personnel arrived on the scene east of Greenville and removed Darden from beneath the wheel. They performed CPR on him, but the sheriff’s office said he died at the scene.
Deputies are investigating Thursday’s accident, which is standard practice when there is one witness or no witnesses.
