Many Americans would quickly face financial hardship if they lost their job, a Gallup poll said.
The polling company found that a “substantial minority,” 14 percent of U.S. workers, would face hardship within a week, while 29 percent could last a month.
“One reason many American workers may not be prepared financially for a job loss is they think it is unlikely to happen to them,” Gallup said.
It found that 16 percent of workers say they are “very” or “fairly” likely to lose their job in the next year, down from a peak of 21 percent in 2010 — year marked by high unemployment.
