BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - An Indiana University nursing student has been hospitalized after her bicycle crashed during practice for the Little 500.
University spokesman Mark Land says 23-year-old senior Lauren Gill was about 3 laps into Thursday’s 25-lap race when a cyclist in front of her slowed down. The two bicycles’ tires touched and Gill was hurled over the handlebars of her bike. Gill was wearing a helmet but was still injured when she landed on her head and shoulders.
The Granger resident was taken to IU Health Bloomington and later flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was listed in critical condition Friday.
The practice race was called off after the accident.
The Little 500 bicycle race is April 26 in Bloomington.
