MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia University’s ambitious fundraising campaign is nearing the finish line.

The university says the largest private fundraising campaign in its history has reached 98 percent of its $750 million goal. The $736 million mark was achieved March 31, with the campaign set to close in December 2015.

WVU Foundation President and CEO Cindi Roth says the funds raised to date underscore the “pride and commitment” donors have for WVU.

The campaign’s $750 million goal is three times larger than the previous campaign from 1998-2003.
