CAREER: Special assistant to director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, 1981-1983; assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts, 1983-1991; lawyer and partner at Boston law firm Palmer & Dodge, 1991-1997; associate justice of the Superior Court, 1997-2009; justice of the Supreme Judicial Court, 2009-2014; appointed chief justice of Supreme Judicial Court in 2014.
