BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - State Rep. John Shaban has dropped his bid for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Jim Himes and will instead focus on winning re-election to the legislature.
The Hearst Connecticut Media Group reports (https://bit.ly/1pcx32R ) that Shaban told supporters in an email that he had been monitoring his campaign finances, and “general traction” of his campaign.
Shaban endorsed Dan Debicella, who is seeking a rematch against Himes. Shaban says his and Debicella’s styles may differ, but the substance of their beliefs does not.
Himes defeated Debicella, a Shelton businessman and former state senator, with 53 percent of the vote in 2010.
Carl Higbie IV, a former Navy Seal from Greenwich, also is pursuing the GOP nomination,
Himes was first elected to Congress in 2008.
