Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will rally this month with Ben Sasse in support of his bid to stave off GOP primary challenger Osborn next month and replace retiring Republican Sen. Mike Johanns next year, the Sasse campaign said Thursday.

Mrs. Palin, a conservative star and former vice presidential candidate, will be joined by Sen. Mike Lee, Utah Republican and tea party favorite, at the campaign event for Mr. Sasse at Buffalo Bill Cody’s ranch in North Platte, Neb.

The Sasse campaign highlighted the locale, also known as Scout’s Rest, as the place where former Nebraska Gov. Kay Orr hosted President Ronald Reagan in 1987.

“I am grateful to have the support of such strong conservative voices, like Governor Sarah Palin, Senator Mike Lee, and Governor Kay Orr,” Mr. Sasse said.

In the GOP primary, Mr. Sasse is taking on former state treasurer Shane Osborn, a Navy pilot who is known for being at the center of a April 2001 incident in which a Chinese fighter plane collided with his spy plane. That prompted an emergency landing and set off an incident in which Mr. Osborn and his crew were interrogated and the Chinese were able to examine the American plane.

Mr. Osborn was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
