LINCOLN, Ill. (AP) - The world’s largest covered wagon has been fixed after workers spent a month repairing wind damage from a winter storm.
The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports (https://bit.ly/1mgLezj ) the repaired tourist attraction along Old US Route 66 in Lincoln is open after crews finished the bulk of the repairs.
The massive wagon, which features a 12-foot-tall Fiberglass Abraham Lincoln, was nearly toppled by 50 mph winds in January. One wheel was destroyed and another was broken.
The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the 40-foot-long, 10,000-pound wagon as the world’s largest.
It was hand-built from Illinois oak and steel in 2001. It was bought in 2007 by the Abraham Lincoln Tourism Bureau of Logan County.
It sits near a hotel in the town of Lincoln, a town named for the 16th president.
