NEW YORK (AP) - Police say they are seeking a woman who attempted to abduct an 8-month-old baby in a stroller on a Manhattan street.

It happened while the baby’s nanny was pushing the stroller on Eighth Avenue near 17th Street in Chelsea just before 4 p.m. Thursday.

NBC 4 New York says the woman approached the nanny and began talking to her before she started pushing the carriage away from the nanny. Bystanders then jumped in and stopped her.

Police say the woman, who appeared to be in her 50s, fled southbound on Eighth Avenue.
