CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Southern Illinois University officials say the system’s incoming president will be on the job May 1, two months earlier than expected.

Randy Dunn will succeed Glenn Poshard (puh-SHARD’), whose last day as the university system’s top administrator will be April 30.

Dunn had been set to start work July 1, the day after Poshard’s previously announced retirement.

Dunn left his position as president of Youngstown State University last month.

Dunn was chairman of SIU-Carbondale’s education administration department in 2004 when he took leave to serve as state superintendent of Illinois’ public schools.
