CLARKSDALE, Miss. (AP) - Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett is suggesting a review of a requirement that all employees live in the city.
The Clarksdale Press Register reports (https://bit.ly/1nqahA7 ) that Luckett wants the city to enforce the policy, amend it or scrap it.
Luckett told city commission members this week the ordinance has been ignored for decades. He said the thrust of the ordinance is, “to serve here, anybody and everybody must be a bonafide resident of the city.”
Luckett said he didn’t know how many of the city’s 135 employees live outside the town but he said many do.
Luckett said the board needs to think about what’s best for Clarksdale, the potential labor pool in Clarksdale, and he also asked for public commentary and input at the next city meeting April 28.
