NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Los Angeles and New York have been making their cases. Now, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu is pitching his city as the new home for the “Late Show” when Stephen Colbert takes over that CBS program from David Letterman next year.
Landrieu on Thursday released a letter he wrote to the president of CBS, touting New Orleans as a great fit for the young-adult audience the networks covet.
“New Orleans is a brand unto itself and is particularly attractive for the key demographic you are trying to reach,” Landrieu said in the letter to CBS’ Leslie Moonves.
He also noted Louisiana’s generous tax credits for movie and television production. He noted that “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” was filmed in the New Orleans area and said 18 major motion pictures were filmed in the state in 2013.
“Hosting that kind of talent in New Orleans would make it easy to facilitate interviews with the entertainment industry’s biggest stars,” Landrieu wrote.
