PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - The much-anticipated Nova Star ferry to Nova Scotia has arrived in Portland, marking the return of ferry service between the city and the Canadian province after four years.
The ferry arrived in Portland on Thursday after stopping in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, earlier in the week for a welcoming ceremony and tours. A tugboat gushing fountains of water greeted it as it entered Portland Harbor. A few dozen onlookers watched the ship pull into port at Portland’s Ocean Gateway Terminal.
The ferry operators plan to start daily roundtrips between Portland and Yarmouth on May 15. They started listing one-way ticket prices in late March ranging from $79 to $139 for adults and $39 to $64 children, depending on the season.
The ferry has a capacity of 1,200 passengers and offers options such as fine dining, a casino and a spa. The ferry traversed thousands of miles of ocean from where it was manufactured in Singapore.
