LERNA, Ill. (AP) - Illinois’ Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site is planning a presentation about poetry in Abraham Lincoln’s life.

Author Dan Guillory is scheduled to give a program of poems, notes and stories at the site’s Visitor Center Auditorium on April 26. He is an emeritus professor of English at Millikin University in Decatur and the author of “The Lincoln Poems.”

The event marks National Poetry Month.

Lincoln began writing poetry as a boy, with verses like, “Abraham Lincoln/his hand and pen/he will be good but/god knows When.” He continued writing as an adult, sometimes producing funny or satirical poems. Other Lincoln poems were sentimental, such as “My Childhood Home” about his boyhood in Indiana.

The Lincoln Log Cabin is located eight miles south of Charleston.
