CHICAGO (AP) - Cook County Recorder of Deeds Karen Yarbrough is facing questions about her decision to hire family members and others with political ties to her.
The Chicago Sun-Times (https://bit.ly/P8opBV ) reports Cook County Inspector General Pat Blanchard says political considerations played a role in the hiring of two employees. And the inspector’s report released Wednesday says some of the hires lied to investigators and refused to cooperate when questioned.
The report comes several months after a federal hiring monitor criticized Yarbrough’s office for problems in the hiring process including “suspicious interviews.”
Yarbrough claims in court papers that the county ethics ordinance that bars the hiring of family members doesn’t apply to her because she’s an independently elected office holder.
