DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Officials at Clarke University are denying claims by a former head softball coach that she was fired because she rejected efforts by the school to make her appear more feminine.

Brendan Quann, an attorney representing the university and two employees, recently submitted a reply to a lawsuit filed by Jaclyn Salzwedel in Dubuque District Court.

The Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1maE16r ) Quann denied that Salzwedel was fired in May 2012 because she didn’t wear more feminine clothing or because of her sexual orientation.

Salzwedel claims in her lawsuit that the school hired a consultant to discuss her appearance and to arrange a new haircut and style at a salon.

Quann says a consultant was hired, but he denies any knowledge about a salon appointment.
