Hundreds of homes and businesses in one community in the central region of California have been evacuated after local officials found what they believe could be an explosive device.
The Santa Maria Times reported that local bomb squads from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department and the nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base arrived at the scene to investigate and, if need be, detonate the device.
Between 500 and 700 homes and businesses have been affected by the evacuation order, The Associated Press reported. Basically, anybody within 1,500-foot radius of the discovered device has been told to flee the area.
Officials didn’t provide details about the device.
The town of Solvang, located about 100 miles outside of Los Angeles, is a frequent tourist stop, AP said.
