SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - The actor who played a detective-turned-school teacher on the HBO hit series “The Wire” is helping a central New York community replace an aging playground.

Jim True-Frost and his wife, Cora, live in Syracuse, where she teaches at the Syracuse University law school. The older of their two children, 5-year-old Leo, is quadriplegic with cerebral palsy and uses a motorized wheelchair.

Recently the couple attended an event held at a suburban Syracuse high school to raise funds for a new playground at an elementary school in Jamesville that will be accessible for the disabled. True-Frost tells The Post-Standard of Syracuse (https://bit.ly/1eCJBfn ) that he didn’t have much awareness about accessibility issues until his son was born with physical disabilities.

On “The Wire,” True-Frost played Roland “Prez” Pryzbylewski, an inept detective-turned-middle school math teacher.
