JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - State Sen. Videt Carmichael is back home in Meridian after being hospitalized in Jackson since March 31 with a head injury.

Carmichael, a Republican from Meridian, has served 14 years in the Senate from Lauderdale and Clarke counties.

Carmichael’s son, Fredie Carmichael, tells WTOK-TV in Meridian (https://bit.ly/QpeIzN ) that doctors at the University of Mississippi Medical Center decided that his father had made significant progress since April 11, making his return home possible.

Carmichael was hospitalized after he fell and hit his head on a concrete surface at his Jackson apartment just before the end of the legislative session.
