PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - Sen. Charles Schumer says some communities on the north shore of Long Island are still in need of funding to recover from the damage of Superstorm Sandy.

The senator says the town of North Hempstead is requesting tens of millions from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other agencies. He did not have a specific amount because applications are still being submitted.

Town supervisor Judi Bosworth says some of the money is needed to repair damaged bulkheads and seawalls at the town dock. Officials also say harbor dredging is needed.

Schumer conceded the south shore of Long Island bore the brunt of the damage from Sandy. But he insisted there should be enough money in the $60 billion federal aid package to help north shore communities.
