Julian Castro, the mayor of San Antonio, said he wants President Obama to do for certain illegal immigrants who have been in the country 10 years or more the same thing he did for children of illegals — grant them amnesty.
“We should look at people who have been here for more than 10 years, who do not have a serious criminal record and who have family members who are United States citizens,” Mr. Castro said, Breitbart reported. “My hope is that President Obama extends what he did with [the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals] for the DREAMers to ease deportations for people without serious criminal records who have families in the United States.”
Mr. Castro made the comments right before his scheduled debate with Texas lieutenant governor candidate Dan Patrick.
Mr. Obama used his executive powers last year to grant temporary amnesty and work permits to those children of illegal immigrants who are under the age of 30 and who came to the nation before they were 16 years old.
Pro-amnesty people have been petitioning Mr. Obama to use his executive authorities more to open doors to illegals, in the face of a reluctant Congress.
