A bombshell has dropped in the IRS scandal that spreads the infamy far beyond the boundaries of the IRS. It shows the depth of the Obama Regime war against its enemies.
It shows why there must be an independent prosecutor appointed to investigate this case.
Judicial Watch filed a Freedom of Information Act request and received a number of emails from the Obama Regime about the IRS scandal. In those emails, Judicial Watch found the proverbial smoking gun that blows this scandal wide open.
The smoking gun email is dated May 8, 2013. It is from Lois Lerner to Nikole Flax, who was then the acting chief of staff to the acting IRS Director Stephen Miller.
Here is what the email said:
“I got a call today from Richard Pilger Director Elections Crimes Branch at DOJ … He wanted to know who at IRS the DOJ folk s [sic] could talk to about Sen. Whitehouse idea at the hearing that DOJ could piece together false statement cases about applicants who ’lied’ on their 1024s -saying they weren’t planning on doing political activity, and then turning around and making large visible political expenditures. DOJ is feeling like it needs to respond, but want to talk to the right folks at IRS to see whether there are impediments from our side and what, if any damage this might do to IRS programs.”
It is not simply the Internal Revenue Service that was engaged in conduct attacking conservative groups because of their political affiliations. This goes to the Department of Justice was well.
In an email to senior IRS staff, Lerner makes it plain this is about shutting conservative groups down. She wrote:
“As I mentioned yesterday — there are several groups of folks from the FEC world that are pushing tax fraud prosecution for c4s who report they are not conducting political activity when they are (or these folks think they are). One is my ex-boss Larry Noble (former General Counsel at the FEC), who is now president of Americans for Campaign Reform. This is their latest push to shut these down. One IRS prosecution would make an impact and they wouldn’t feel so comfortable doing the stuff.
“So, don’t be fooled about how this is being articulated – it is ALL about 501(c)(4) orgs and political activity.”
The American people must now demand an independent prosecutor be appointed. The Department of Justice cannot be expected to investigate this matter when it may well have been a part of trying to target these Americans and these groups for simply expressing a political opinion.
In 2013, while Lois Lerner was talking about prosecuting Americans for daring to fight the Obama Regime, the IRS was auditing 501c4 organizations. According to Rep. Dave Camp, every organization that the IRS audited was a conservative organization. Not a single liberal organization was audited.
This scandal is far worse than Watergate. In the IRS scandal, the full power of government agencies, such as the IRS and the Department of Justice, are being used to violate the civil rights of people simply because they are political opponents of the president.
This scandal reaches into the Department of Justice. Rep. Darryl Issa’s oversight committee needs to start issuing subpoenas to the Department of Justice.
When that committee has hearings, one of the first questions that needs to be asked is, “What did Eric Holder know and when did he know it?”
In the mean time, Americans must demand an independent prosecutor be appointed to start investigating this case.
Eric Holder certainly will not.
