PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Monica Wehby (WEHB’-ee) is launching the first television ads in the Republican primary campaign for U.S. Senate.

Wehby’s campaign says the ads will begin airing statewide on Tuesday. They tout her opposition to President Barack Obama’s health care law, declaring “Obamacare is bad for Oregon.”

Wehby is a pediatric neurosurgeon from Portland. She faces state Rep. Jason Conger from Bend and several others, but none of the candidates is well-known. Wehby’s ads will help introduce her to voters before the May 20 primary.

Democratic incumbent Jeff Merkley is seeking a second term.
