MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - A professor and administrator at the University of Mobile is the new leader of the Alabama Historical Association.

Lonnie A. Burnett has been elected president of the group. He’s an assistant vice president and history professor at the private, Christian school in Mobile.

The historical association has nearly 1,000 members. They include professional historians and others with an interest in Alabama history.

Burnett has been a member of the group for two decades and previously served as vice president.
