Minnesota has inked a contract with Deloitte to stabilize and manage its Obamacare exchange as it prepares for the second round of enrollment this fall, joining a growing list of states that have decided to turn to the consulting company in hopes of turning around its tech fortunes.
The state-run exchange, known as MNsure, said the initial, nine-month contract is worth $4.95 million, and comes after a competitive bidding process involving seven vendors.
Deloitte will serve as a point of contract with the exchange’s current vendors, including IBM, EngagePopint and Connecture, the exchange said, while it has extended a contract with Maximus until June 30.
MNsure was among states that experienced glitches during the first period of enrollment from October and March.
In selecting Deloitte, exchange officials noted the company has become a rare bright spot among companies that helped states roll out their portals.
“The health insurance exchanges Deloitte designed and developed for Kentucky, Connecticut, Rhode Island and the state of Washington have enrolled hundreds of thousands of people and become national models of simple design, effective technology, and stable websites,” they said in a press release. “In fact, Deloitte is the only vendor that successfully implemented more than one state exchange by the October 1, 2013 deadline.”
MNsure noted that Maryland and Nevada recently turned to Deloitte for help with their troubled exchanges.
