FREEPORT, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the theft of as many as 600 pieces of mail from two U.S. Postal boxes on Long Island.
Post service officials say the mail was removed from the green locked boxes used by carriers to pick up mail to distribute on their routes.
Newsday (https://bit.ly/1hIBcGX ) says it happened in Freeport on April 7.
One box is located at the intersection of West Merrick and South Long Beach roads. The other one is at Whaley Street and Miller Avenue.
Residents along the affected routes have been notified.
