Jordanian fighter jets on Wednesday fired on a convoy of camouflaged armored vehicles that illegally attempted to breach the country’s border with Syria by scaling rough terrain.

The incident took place at about 10:30 a.m. Arabia Standard Time, according to a statement issued by the Jordan Armed Forces.

Jordanian military officials fired warning shots in compliance with the country’s rules of engagement, but the convoy of vehicles continued to snake its way across a difficult tract of land, per the statement. Jordanian jets destroyed the vehicles after they failed to respond to the warning, according to the statement.

Al-Jazeera reported that the vehicles did not belong to Syria’s armed forces.
