STURGIS, S.D. (AP) - The company Indian Motorcycles plans to open a permanent dealership in Sturgis.

The Rapid City Journal (https://bit.ly/1jKTyqb ) reports the company’s push to re-establish as a major player in cycle city will challenge the dominance that Harley-Davidson motorcycles have held for years.

More than 75 years ago riders of Indian motorcycles launched a small gathering that later exploded into the annual Sturgis motorcycle rally.

The newspaper reports the brand lay dormant for two years until the unveiling of new models in August.

The company expects to open the dealership in early May. It will have a service area and sell apparel.
