MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is thanking New Hampshire law-enforcement officials who responded to the Boston Marathon bombings a year ago.
Shaheen is meeting with authorities at the Manchester Police Department on Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. to thank them for their response to the tragedy, which killed three people and injured more than 250 on April 15, 2013.
“We can never thank enough all those who helped Boston recover from the horrors of that day - the first responders, both law enforcement and medical, and the countless number of volunteers who banded together to help a community during one of its most vulnerable times,” Shaheen said in a statement Tuesday.
Among those officers who assisted in Massachusetts were the New Hampshire State Police Special Weapons and Tactics Unit and the Explosives Ordinance Disposal Unit; and the Nashua Police Department.
Gov. Maggie Hassan said, “In the face of this sense act of terror and cowardice, the people of New England demonstrated our collective resilience, standing together to overcome this tragedy.”
She said the work by law enforcement to “protect the people of our region and bring the perpetrators to justice was outstanding.”
Sen. Kelly Ayotte said, “we find inspiration in the extraordinary examples of recovery and resilience that have come to define the true spirit of ’Boston Strong.’ “
