LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Employees of the food service contractor for Michigan prisons are being disciplined for breaking rules more frequently than other prison workers.

MLive.com reports (https://bit.ly/1m5lPLl ) that the state Department of Corrections has issued 51 stop orders to Aramark workers banning them from state prisons since Aramark began operations late last year.

Department spokesman Russ Marlan says that’s “on the high side” since there were 40 stop orders issued for all other workers over the same period.

Marlan says half the stop orders issued to Aramark workers were for “overfamiliarity” with inmates. Michigan fined Aramark $98,000 in February and March for contract violations, including 12 instances of inappropriate contact with inmates.

Aramark says it’s making progress on problems associated with “a transition of this size and complexity.”
