PITTSBURGH (AP) - Pittsburgh’s FBI office has a new boss.

Scott S. Smith has been named special agent-in-charge of the city’s field office, replacing Doug Perdue, who held the job for nearly two years.

Smith was a deputy sheriff in Lake County, Ohio, before joining the FBI in 1996. He focused on drug trafficking as part of the violent crimes desk in the Cleveland FBI office before being promoted to supervisory special agent of the International Terrorism Operations Section in the FBI’s Counterterrorism Division at its Washington, D.C. headquarters.

As part of those duties, Smith was deployed to Iraq twice, once leading a team of analysts and language specialists and the other time as deputy commander of the FBI’s counterterrorism program in that country.

Most recently, he’s led the employee services section of the FBI’s human resources division.
