CINCINNATI (AP) - A man accused of fatally stabbing a woman and her 12-year-old daughter in Cincinnati has been found guilty of murder and tampering with evidence.

A prosecutor’s spokeswoman says 37-year-old Brian Everett was convicted Tuesday and sentenced to the maximum 33 years to life in prison for the May 2012 slayings of Nicole Smith and her daughter, Stephanie Smith.

Media outlets report the Cincinnati man testified he killed the two in self-defense at his home after Nicole Smith tried to stab him when he wouldn’t have sex with her.

Prosecutors argued that Everett intentionally killed Smith after she rejected him and that he killed her daughter when she got in the way.

One of Everett’s attorneys says Everett indicated he will appeal.
