DETROIT (AP) - A police officer from Windsor, Ontario, has been charged with drug possession after crossing the Ambassador Bridge into the United States.

The Wayne County prosecutor’s office says Tuesday that 31-year-old David Bshouty was off-duty when he was arrested Saturday.

Bshouty was taken into custody by the Department of Homeland Security special agents after cocaine was found. He was arraigned Monday on possession of under 25 grams of narcotics. A preliminary examination is scheduled for April 25.

Wayne County Circuit Court online records did not list a defense attorney Tuesday for Bshouty.

The Ambassador Bridge spans the Detroit River and connects downtown Windsor in Canada to Detroit.
