BOSTON (AP) - A group of western Massachusetts residents, hospital workers and community leaders are planning a bus trip to the Statehouse to press the governor and legislative leaders to help restore health care services at North Adams Hospital.
The hospital shut down abruptly last month. Residents say the closure has made it harder to obtain critical health services.
The group said it plans to arrive at the Statehouse around noon on Tuesday and hopes to deliver the petition to Gov. Deval Patrick’s office before stopping by the offices of House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray.
The group said it has collected more than 10,000 signatures.
Before arriving in Boston, the group hopes to stop at Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Framingham to talk about the importance of the hospital in crisis situations.
