SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - More than 100 slot machines have been delivered for the new Hard Rock casino in Sioux City.
General manager Todd Moyer told the Sioux City Journal (https://bit.ly/1ilmdCs ) that officials spent more than nine months researching machines and games and visiting other Iowa casinos to check the competition.
“We picked the best of the best. They’re all the latest and greatest machines that people want to play,” Moyer said.
The slots will accept bets ranging from a penny to $25 per play.
Kelly Pace, director of the casino’s slot operations, said the machines are essentially programmable computers with LED flat panel screens. He called them a big improvement over older machines with glass displays.
“You can change the game out without changing the glass,” Pace said.
The first 116 machine arrived March 31 and have been stored in a Sioux City warehouse.
Up to 850 machines should be installed for the opening of the $128.5 million project, which will feature a 30,000-square-foot casino floor. The opening is expected to occur by late July or early August.
Officials said they have received about 1,500 online job applications for 500 positions expected to be filled at the casino.
