MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - Nassau County on Long Island is considering hiring private consultants to manage concerts at county parks.

Newsday (https://bit.ly/1eDfTY3 ) reports that two consultants would perform functions previously handled by three Parks Department employees.

One of the Parks Department employees has retired. Two other part-time positions were not renewed.

The contracts would be funded by a portion of Nassau’s hotel/motel tax.

Officials declined to estimate a cost for the contract, citing the competitive bidding process.

The county says the contracts would save money because it would obtain cheaper advertising rates.

Nassau hosts dozens of free shows annually, predominantly at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow.
