ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (AP) - Several major Vermont highway projects are taking place this year in the Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury areas for a cost of about $21 million.
An 8.5-mile stretch of Interstate 91 from Exit 20 in St. Johnsbury to Exit 23 will be rebuilt, both north and southbound lanes.
Also planned are repaving of Route 5 between St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville and the rebuilding of rail crossings on state highways in the two communities.
The Caledonian Record reports (https://bit.ly/1eK1VOi) construction was scheduled to start Tuesday and run through mid-October.
Mike Fowler, pavement design engineer for the Vermont Agency of Transportation, said the I-91 stretch has had “higher than average” accidents.
