LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) - Gov. Susana Martinez is celebrating the sale of a historic hotel in downtown Las Vegas.
The governor and her economic development secretary, Jon Barela, traveled to the northern New Mexico town Monday to promote the sale and planned restoration of the Hotel Castaneda as a project that will transform downtown.
The Hotel Castañeda is a historic Fred Harvey House hotel built in 1898 to serve as food-and-rest stop along the Santa Fe Railway. The hotel was purchased by Allan Affeldt, who has also restored La Posada Hotel in Winslow, Ariz., another Harvey House property.
Martinez says the rehabilitated destination hotel and restaurant will serve as an anchor tenant for the Las Vegas MainStreet district and have a spillover effect on other businesses in the area.
