HOLLAND, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan office furniture company says claims it improperly benefited from a state contract because its subcontractor is co-owned by Gov. Rick Snyder’s cousin are “baseless.”
The Grand Rapids Press reported (https://bit.ly/1n9Jzyn ) Tuesday that Holland-based Haworth Inc. said the accusations are an “affront against our employees that have earned every bit of business we have received.”
Democrats recently accused Snyder’s administration of protecting his cousin’s furniture company DBI Business Interiors from a proposed cut in a state contract. DBI is paid to install new furniture in state offices for Haworth.
Haworth says it has followed all laws and has had contracts with the state for more than 25 years. Snyder also has denied any impropriety.
House Democrats are proposing legislation to redistribute furniture contract funding and increase financial disclosure requirements.
