Conjoined twin boys who were separated last summer are now doing well enough to move on to the next stage of their development and head to a rehab center, doctors at their Dallas-area hospital said.
Owen and Emmett Ezell, who were attached at the chest, are expected to be discharged from Medical City Children’s Hospital on Wednesday, a local CBS affiliate reported.
The twins were born in July, weighing a combined 11 pounds, 15 ounces. They shared a liver and bowels at birth, and also suffered from a defect that left their intestines outside their bodies, CBS reported.
The boys were separated a month later and have since been fed through tubes in their abdomens, according to CBS. They will remain at the rehab center until they’ve grown enough to breath completely on their own.
