CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for shooting a 13-year-old boy to death at a South Side convenience store in 2008.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1l3NPuR ) Tuesday that 21-year-old Sebastian Rodriguez was sentenced March 31. He was 15 at the time of the shootings. Jurors convicted Rodriguez of first-degree murder in February. Cook County prosecutors have said the victim, Sameere Conn, was buying snacks with friends after football practice.
Officials say Rodriguez fired a gun into the store, shooting Conn in the abdomen and both hands. The boy died the next day. A 27-year-old man also was shot but recovered.
Prosecutors say that before the shooting Rodriguez had said he wanted to kill Conn and that the boy’s name was on a “death list.”
